The Tour of Britain came to our area on Monday... and what a grand day it was!
For an event such as this, the weather is a big factor, and as the day approached, the forecast was for thick black cloud. BUT Monday morning broke with clear blue skies, sunshine and lots of enthusiasm!
Clitheroe town centre was rapidly set up for the start of the race - and the crowds soon lined the streets to cheer the cyclists on their way. Shops were decorated with a painted bikes, and bunting fluttered above.
At about 11.15 AM the cyclists set off, slowly at first down the main street but quickly picking up speed as they left Clitheroe and made their way towards Pendle Hill (where there were huge crowds encouraging them along).
After a long route around the valley's villages and lanes, the cyclists had split into 2 groups, so as they made their way through Clitheroe for a second time, they didn't all pass by in the blink of an eye... there was chance to get a snap of Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish who were in the second group (see the pic above).
From Clitheroe, they made their way to Colne for an exciting and busy finish!
It was fantastic to see SO many people SO enthusiastic about cycling... and we hope the buzz will continue!
Thanks to all those that took us up on our offer of free bike storage. We hope you enjoyed the day! And to anyone inspired by the event to get on their bike, please pay us a visit, hire a bike and get involved!
